Testosterone Test
Measures the key male hormone that influences energy, libido, muscle mass and mood — in both men and women.
Testosterone is a key hormone influencing energy, libido, muscle mass and mood, and measuring it provides important insight into hormonal health in both men and women.
About the Testosterone Test
This test measures the level of testosterone in your blood. In men, low testosterone can contribute to fatigue, reduced libido, low mood and loss of muscle mass, while in women, raised levels may relate to conditions such as polycystic ovary syndrome. Testing is valuable for investigating these symptoms and for building a picture of overall hormonal and reproductive health.
Preparation and turnaround
A morning blood sample is preferred, as testosterone is highest earlier in the day; fasting is not usually required. Results are typically available within one to two working days. Because levels vary, results are best interpreted by a doctor alongside your symptoms and, where relevant, other hormone tests.
Frequently asked questions
Why is a morning sample preferred?
Testosterone levels are naturally highest in the morning, so an early sample gives the most reliable reading.
Can women benefit from testosterone testing?
Yes. In women, testosterone testing can help investigate conditions such as polycystic ovary syndrome and other hormonal concerns.
What symptoms suggest low testosterone?
In men, fatigue, reduced libido, low mood and loss of muscle mass can all be linked to low testosterone.
Some tests require fasting. We'll confirm any preparation (such as fasting for 8–10 hours) when we confirm your appointment. When in doubt, ask us at booking.
